There is no better reminder of life’s constant flow than the Moon. Regardless of where you are in the world, she is always shifting — waxing, waning, disappearing and returning. She is a living reminder that life is not meant to be static. And neither are we.
In astrology, the Moon rules Cancer and represents our emotions. Just as she moves through constant cycles, our emotions are not meant to stay fixed either. As much as we might wish to feel energised and happy all the time, that would be neither possible nor healthy. Without contrast, even happiness eventually becomes boredom. The Moon teaches us to stop resisting the ebb and flow — and start working with it.
Why the Moon Matters for Manifestation
You may have heard me say that manifestation is about a lot more than positive thinking. It’s about your beliefs, your energy, and — most importantly — your vibration. And nothing affects your vibration more directly than your emotions.
Here’s the good news: the Moon gives us a built-in, accessible map for navigating those emotions and aligning our energy with the natural rhythms around us. Once you start working with her cycles, manifestation stops feeling like something you have to force — and starts feeling like something you flow into.
The New Moon: Make a Decision
New Moons mark the beginning of a fresh four-week cycle. They are traditionally the most fertile time for manifestation — the moment to get clear on what you want to call into your life.
I’ll be honest with you: I’m not a big fan of the word intention. For a lot of people, intentions are just faraway dreams dressed up in spiritual language. Instead, I prefer the word decision. Can you feel the difference? A decision has conviction behind it. It’s a declaration, not a wish. That’s the energy we want to bring to New Moon manifestation — not “it would be nice if maybe someday…” but “this is already on its way to me.”
The Waxing Moon: Take Aligned Action
As the Moon grows in the sky, so does the momentum behind your decisions. The waxing phase is your invitation to take action — but aligned action, not frantic hustle.
Manifestation without action is wishful thinking. You have to meet the universe at least partway. But here’s what I want you to remember: aligned action will never burn you out. Sometimes it’s one tiny step forward. Sometimes it’s resting your nervous system so you can show up clearly. Occasionally it’s working deep into the night on your passion project — because you’re in flow and you want to, not because you feel like you have to. Let the action come from alignment, not pressure.
The Full Moon: Release What No Longer Fits
Full Moons are the most overlooked part of the manifestation process.
We spend so much energy focused on what we want to add to our lives — but there is only so much water you can pour into a full cup. Before you can receive something new, you need to pour out what’s old, stagnant, or no longer yours.
Think about the version of you who has already manifested your dream life. What does she simply not have time for anymore? A draining job? A relationship that exhausts her? Hours of mindless scrolling? That is what Full Moons ask you to release.
Sometimes a Full Moon also reveals that something you once dreamed of no longer fits the person you’re becoming. That’s not failure — that’s growth. Give yourself permission to release old dreams in order to make space for truer ones.
The Waning Moon: Reflect, Receive and Be Grateful
After the action of the waxing phase and the emotional intensity of the Full Moon, the waning Moon invites you to slow down. This is a time for reflection — and often, the first signs of your manifestation begin to show up here.
Make space for gratitude. Receiving is a skill, and appreciation is how you practise it. The more you acknowledge what is already arriving, the more naturally you open to what’s next.
Eclipses: The Cosmic Wild Cards
Sometimes a Full Moon coincides with a Lunar Eclipse, or a New Moon with a Solar Eclipse. Thanks to their alignment with the lunar nodes, eclipses carry a fated quality — they are cosmic turning points that can redirect your life in ways you didn’t see coming.
For this reason, it’s generally not advised to launch new projects, set intentions, or perform manifestation rituals in the week before or after an eclipse. Your path may be shifting in ways that haven’t revealed themselves yet, and the more you resist that redirection, the harder the transition tends to be. Eclipse seasons are better used for observation and surrender than for forcing outcomes.
The Moon Through the Signs: Your Personal Lunar Calendar
The Moon changes signs every two and a half days, and each sign colours the emotional atmosphere differently. I highly recommend keeping a simple Moon journal — even just a few words each day noting the current Moon sign and how you feel.
Over time, patterns will emerge. Perhaps you feel more extroverted when the Moon is in Leo, or more creatively inspired when she moves through Pisces. This is genuinely valuable self-knowledge. Use it to build your own personal calendar — scheduling big decisions, social events, creative work and rest days in harmony with the Moon’s natural rhythm.
